Prac Swap

Prac Swap is an initiative to support Early Years Educators who are currently employed in Early Years settings to complete their Early Childhood Teacher degrees.

To complete their professional experience, students would undertake a ‘swap’ between centres in the same location, without having to use their leave, take unpaid leave or lose pay.

Features of the program

Pre-service teachers would not have to use their annual leave

Professional experience is supported through paid professional leave by their employer

Students are registered as a volunteer at the host centre

Early years educators could be included in ratio

Being a registered volunteer, the same duty of care would apply as any other responsible adult present

If they are working in an at-level setting, as a volunteer, they may be able to be included in ratio, provided the host centre can accommodate this within their risk framework

Prac Swap is currently being implemented in universities in Queensland.

Prac Swap is supported by regulatory bodies and supports individuals to gain ECT qualifications, contributing to addressing workforce shortages.
